a5c7b9f00b Private Barnes is a young Marine on his first tour in Iraq. His mission: Find the enemy that is implanting Improvised Explosive Devices on donkeys. ALL he wants: a confirmed kill.
I was fortunate enough to check this out at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival and I have to say that I was pretty riveted by the scale of production, given this was a student production. Some enthralling cinematography and lighting design choices truly helped shape the claustrophobic atmosphere and brought you into the inner turmoil of what the soldiers were feeling. I vaguely remember the actual plot, however, so I'll have to see again since it's been a while, though this was no doubt a visual treat that pulled no punches and threw you into the midst of what it could be like facing just one of the many horrors in combat that's so alien to most of us. The filmmakers have a bright future ahead of them.
